The Best and Worst Products I've Bought
Slowly combing through the beauty aisles in TJ Maxx is a dangerous game to play with me. I'll mosey through the store with no particular intent aaaaand then discover myself with a minimum of 10 things sitting in my cart. Staring up at me. Saying, 'hey, I'm discounted.' Here are some of my best and worst* game-time-decision products I've bought:
*When I say ‘worst’ I mean ‘worst for me,’ obviously. You might try some of these and love these and that’s super too. Anywho…
L'Oreal Revitalift Night and Day Cream.
This was such a last minute decision to throw this duo into my cart, but I am so glad I did. I have been religiously applying my Neutrogena sunscreen in the morning and ROC lotion at night, but was running low on both. This L'Oreal Revitalift Day lotion smells aggressively of suntan lotion (as does my Neutrogena), but goes on smoothly underneath my makeup. I definitely like the daytime cream better than the Neutrogena. The Night cream feels wonderful, but it isn't as moisturizing as my ROC. I feel like it would be a better summer moisturizer. That being said, neither product breaks me out and the price was so nice. Win-win-win.
Vitamin C Cream.
I don't know what it was about this lotion, but it made me break out on my face. I do have sensitive, acne-prone skin, so someone with more neutral skin might be able to get some benefits from this product. I used it on my hands, arms, chest, and neck with no problem. Still not insanely crazy about it though.
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss.
I'm currently a matte liquid lipstick addict with a slight aversion to regular lipsticks. I assumed all traditional lipsticks needed lipliner to stay in place, but Rimmel nailed it with this lippie. It's also super moisturizing without being too sticky (doesn't end up on my teeth by mid afternoon). It reapplies fantastically too. I'll stop fangirling now. PS: My favorite shade is ‘Rosette.’
Olehenrikson Dark Spot Toner.
La-la-lahve this. Makes my skin super smooth after each use. I love to use it before I put on my daily moisturizer so that my makeup goes on evenly. Not totally sure if it takes away dark spots (which I guess is the point, but…). It’s hydrating, doesn’t break me out, and I feel like it’s helping with my forehead wrinkles?! Smells like lemon, so blech, but that’s the only downside for me. Buy this, ladies.
EltaMD Tinted Sunscreen.
Verdict. Best and Worst
I know, I know, how is it possible to be the best and the worst? This tinted sunscreen is SPF 40, which makes it the best. It goes on nicely and doesn't have a heinous smell. However, the tint is way too orange for me. It's supposed to be a one-size-fits-all sort of product, which is never good with women who are very, very pale or very, very dark. I figured this would happen, but I read a lot of reviews saying it was a 'universal tint.' Wrong-o. Not a huge loss because I'll try to use it over the summer. There's a plain SPF 46 version that I'd love to try.
