5 Things I'm Happy I Started Doing
I recently read that we should spend time celebrating our joys instead of complaining about our worries. This is something I've heard on more than a few occasions, but this last time it really stuck.
1. Taking care of my skin.
There's 101 reasons why I'm happy that I finally (wo)man-ed up and made skincare a priority. I used to want to hit people who bragged about their skincare regime and went on and on and on about how they wear less makeup. It physically pains me to say it, but they were right. Since I put time and effort (and money) into my routine, I've had to focus less on makeup coverage. It has streamlined my life to no end. On a daily basis, I just wear concealer or powder as face makeup. LADIES, this cut my routine in half. Of course, I still love a good foundation (nothing like max coverage for date night), but in a pinch it's nice to know I don't have to pile it on for a Wednesday at work. I just filmed my typical nighttime routine here. My skincare arsenal can be found here.
I've thanked you lovely, lovely readers for your patience with me as I pared down my usual 4-5 blog posts a week to 1-2. I really enjoy writing and taking photos and to be frank, I want to keep it that way. Putting less pressure on my content automatically makes it more 'me,' more authentic, and once again more 'ME.' I write when I want to and I take/edit/vacillate over photos when I want to.
My outward aversion for painting has been loud and proud since I was a kid. I’ve always been one for drawing, but paint - ick. Picking up a brush in the beginning of 2019 changed a lot of things for me. They may be small things, but they're things all the same. I've been able to make new friends, display my work at an event, and get a little 'me' time in all while making something (mostly) pretty.
I haven't been doing a ton of videos for the blog, but I've been pretty thrilled that I've done any at all this year. I don't go crazy with production value (which I've toyed with), because anyone who's done video knows it's time consuming. I also do video by day (pre-production, shooting, editing), so after work I'm not always jumping at the chance to do it all over again. Longest story short, I'm happy that I've been doing any video at all outside of work. And I'm happiest that you guys like them!
I was already eating pretty healthy (or knew what I was supposed to be eating...), so with a few switches I felt much better in no time. Healthy eating has also been fun for me and my husband - who knew picking recipes could be so bonding? We also have the most fun picking unhealthy recipes too. What can we say? We like (love) balance. It’s also one of my most popular posts, so I’m assuming you love some balance too.
What's something neat you've done that you want to celebrate? xx
