I'm in strict packing mode today! Just finishing up a little work and then I'm ready to go. The happiest of Fridays to everyone - I hope you have a great weekend! xx
I know it's already Thursday, but I want to talk workwear! I'm so business casual it hurts. I love me a pair of pumps, a tailored pencil skirt, and a good blazer. What's chicer than a formfitting dress? Answer: nothing. But, how do you choose which pieces to wear when you find yourself away from home? What is easily packable and anti-wrinkle? Allow me to help...
Tops. I'm a tank top fan no matter the season. Throw one on underneath a blazer or a sheer button-down. Forget pajamas? Fear not, you've got a comfy tank top. Multipurpose + affordable.
Cardigans/Blazers. One of each. Be sure your blazer is fitted + flattering. This is one item I don't mind spending a little money on because it instantly elevates your look.
Skirts. Pack one or two midi body-con skirts. They are lightweight + take up very little space in your travel bag. Plus, they don't wrinkle easily and come in great patterns + colors.
Dresses. One office appropriate midi-length dress. I know that's a specific order, but trust that you will be able to wear this dress virtually anywhere. Pair with the right heels + go right from that meeting to dinner.
Shoes. Choose a statement heel. It is way easier to pack neutral outfits that can be mixed + matched daily with an amazing shoe. It is also more appropriate to be daring with your heel choice, rather than your outfit choice. Re-wearing a fun heel is not a fashion crime and is a great conversation starter.
This lace-up tank top sweater is as close as I am willing to get to fall fashion right now. You guys, how is summer almost over? Even though I'm not thrilled about this...I am super pumped about Fossil's new Camp Fossil line this fall. Check out this watch - it's the bombbbbbb.
Is anyone else upset about summer ending? Just me? xx
Happy Tuesday! This week I've found myself going lighter on the eye makeup and paying more attention than usual to my skin. I've been pretty preoccupied with achieving that summer glow. Anyone else?
It's safe to say I'm behind the eight ball when it comes to foundation application. Typically, I use a full face brush to swipe on foundation. After receiving a beauty blender as a gift, I decided to change my ways. Here's what I thought:
What I like - foundation goes on smooth, never streaky! PS: If you dampen the blender with water before, it really helps with the application.
What I don't like - difficult to clean, but easily affordable to replace.
What do you lovelies think? Who's a beauty blender fan? xx
It's Monday - we're back at it again! The start of a new week always gets me in vacation planning mode. Is that normal? ;) Below are 2 bestie trip ideas that will keep me going:
Annapolis, MD. I can't gush enough about this cute little town. You may remember my post last month about my long weekend spent in the home of the Naval Academy. Plenty of photo opps and amazing food!
Glamping. I have a special appreciation for nature that involves me still needing to have access to electricity, a toilet, and a partially bug-free zone. What fits the bill? Glamping. I haven't been just yet, but me and my best friend have our hearts set on a fall camping weekend in October. We're hoping for a quaint getaway from the city!
What's your pick - beach or mountains? Or both? xx
Just one more week and I'm on vacation! I'll be tying up odds and ends these next few days. Obviously, I'm going to be scooping up some pieces from those end of summer sales ;)
Have a great weekend, lovelies! xx
I wear sunglasses in every season, but spring + summer always seem to have me shades-obsessed. I used to be wary of the size + shape, but after much trial and error, I've finally found my go-to pairs.
Classic black aviator. You can't go wrong with an aviator style. You also can't go wrong with black. I received these Ray-bans for my birthday and immediately fell in love.
Oversized. This description is obviously super vague, but that's because it's supposed to be! I love to pull a Mary-Kate + Ashley and toss on the biggest sunglasses I can find to have everyone at the supermarket think I am totally chic.
Cat eye. Although the lenses are shaded, I believe sunglasses can still accentuate your eyes. A cat eye works for everyone. If you don't believe me choose a more subtle frame for starters.
What's your fave shape, lovelies? xx
Let's talk about hot, hot, hot. NEW YORK, you were smokin'. I spent a super quick weekend in the Big Apple. I want to go baaaack. Hopefully, soon!
Here are some behind-the-scenes snaps. A little post on our photoshoot coming soon! xx
I've had a few requests for an eye makeup tutorial lately, so your wish has been granted - in a video!
The products I use:
What I like - ev.ery.thing. This palette has colors that are perfect for both day and night. The subtle shimmer is just enough glitz without being outrageous.
What I dislike - literally nothing ;)
If you have any questions comment below or email me at email@example.com! I'll create a video response for you lovelies xx
You asked + I answered! I get a lot of questions about running my own business - feel free to comment more inquiries below or email firstname.lastname@example.org xx
Is Qustom Quinns your name?
My name is Quinn! The custom sneakers I draw on were originally called Qustom Quinns and it stuck.
Aren't Qustom Quinns just sneakers?
Qustom Quinns are sneakers. More about all that here :) But Qustom Quinns is also a brand! I expanded my business from drawing on shoes to working with other brands to review clothing, accessories, and makeup, and even branched out into lifestyle blogging.
What do you spend your time doing when you're working on Qustom Quinns?
Drawing. I spend a lot of time communicating with my customers (qustomers ;) and illustrating their qustom orders. A typical order takes between 4-6 weeks from beginning to end. Whether you're requesting shoes, a hat, a tote bag, a pillow, or a portrait, I personally work with you on every commission.
Writing. Drafting blog content is no joke. I have an editorial calendar that includes everything I want to talk to you lovelies about and that also includes sponsored content. Working with other brands is always fun and definitely one of my favorite things to do.
Photographing. I love photos! I really like getting to know people through the pictures they post. It's such a cool way to let you guys in on what I'm doing or wearing or eating or where I'm traveling to. It's also a marketing tool. What may seem like just your typical selfie is actually a sponsored photo. #themoreyouknow
Is Qustom Quinns your full-time job?
It is not. Kind of cool that you think it is ;)
Hi! It's been a whirlwind of a week. Super busy, but that's how I like it! I have a bunch of new orders + shoots coming up, so stay tuned :)
Have a great weekend, lovelies! xx
So little time, so much to do - but in my opinion, there's always enough time for makeup. When you look good, you feel better. If you only have five minutes to get it together, what do you use? I'm so glad you asked:
- Concealer. They'll never know you were up until midnight + then decided to wake up at 5 am for work.
- Mascara. This is a must. Always. If there is only one beauty product you use, let it be the holy grail that is mascara.
- Eyeliner. It's not for everyone, but I stand by it. A bold line on each eye words wonders.
- Blush. You just need a swipe on both cheeks. I prefer a pinkish hue when I'm in a rush.
- Lips. A subtle color that is similar to your blush keeps things simple, but pretty.
What's your quick fix makeup routine, lovelies? xx
PINK. It's my favorite, so why not do it up? This was a super fun look I wore out for a birthday breakfast last week. As a former dancer, I really enjoyed doing a twirl or two in this tulle skirt. And how about these bow heels?! I need to pull these out more often ;)
When I workout I'm looking less than glamourous. Although most of my workouts involve me wearing a nerdy one-piece swimsuit, I do venture out of the pool every now and again. I took a chance on these athletic shorts in an effort to spice up my workout wardrobe.
What I like - budget-friendly, comfortable, bright colors/patterns available.
What I dislike - a liiiiiittle too short for spin class, but love 'em for kickboxing.
All of you workout junkies out there, what are you favorite athletic-wear brands? xx
You guys, I am making the trek to New York soon and I already have way too many things on my to-do list. There are some staple places that I already love (and would love to revisit) and there are even more new things I want to try! Besides the dilemma of wanting to squeeze evvvvverything in, there is the age-old question of 'what to pack?' Here are some accessories I came across that I am dying to bring along:
What are your staples for a weekend in the city?
What is upppppp, TGIF! I'm doing a little running around this weekend to a few different places and looking forward to it all. Let's all try to catch up on our rest this Sunday ;)
Have a great weekend, lovelies! xx
I am almost always ready for a night away from home. It's way easier than you think to keep your necessary overnight items always with you and have them be spill-proof!
Use your contact case to hold lotion and face wash. I have had my face wash leak one too many times. Gross. But when I travel without it my skin freaks out. My solution? Keep my face wash on the left side of a contact case, while I fill the right side with my coconut oil for post-cleanse. Tiny and efficient.
Always store an extra makeup bag in your car with hairties, vaseline, and a small deodorant. Never underestimate the power of a hairtie. Sometimes that hair just needs to go up. Vaseline can act as a moisturizer and makeup remover - so necessary! Deodorant should never be forgotten. Having a teeny tiny extra is always welcome.
What are your hacks for an unexpected night away from home? xx
Just sharing another one of my favorite summertime outfits! It's rare that you find me in bright tones, but when you do, obviously I go big ;)
PS: Like my phone case? You can get your own here. CaseApp has given me a special discount code for you lovelies! For 20% off, 'QUSTOMQUINNS20' - hurry, it's only valid through August 6th!
I'm never one to skip to the season ahead - unless that season is summer ;) - but this lipstick has me thinking about fall. I've been obsessing over Maybelline products for a bit now, so why not continue? Maybelline Sensational Lipcolor in Deepest Cherry is my new go-to hue for dinner.
What I like - intense pigmentation, easy to apply, the deep berry color.
What I don't like - wipes off easily, but I've found that if I apply powder foundation to my lips before I apply the lipstick it stays on longer.
Has anyone else tried Maybelline Sensational Lipcolors? How about a dark color? xx
